Breast Health Screening
NH Health Center is committed to providing quality care to the women in our community. In addition to primary care, we offer mammography, breast physical exams, and instruction in breast self-exam. Women are advised to get a mammogram by age 40, and annually from age 40 onward. Breast exams are performed by a physician or a certified physician assistant as part of an annual screening. Women with a family history of breast cancer will receive a personalized screening program designed by our genetic counselors and physicians.
Our BEAT Breast Cancer Program provides comprehensive and affordable medical services to the Orange County Asian and Pacific Islander community and meets the breast health needs of low-income, uninsured women that are in key geographic areas such as Anaheim, Garden Grove, Santa Ana, and Westminster.
Cervical Cancer Screening
We also offer Pap smears and pelvic examinations to screen for cervical cancer. Women are advised to have a Pap smear every year if sexually active or 18 years and older. Most cervical cancers can be prevented through effective screening by Pap smear and avoidance of known risk factors.
The Pap smear is a safe, non-invasive medical procedure in which cellular material is obtained from the uterine cervix for evaluation. Between 60 and 80 percent of women who are diagnosed in the United States with invasive cervical cancer have not had a Pap test in the previous year. Pap smears can detect cervical cancer, precancerous lesions, and a variety of infectious conditions.
